We loved her so much the first time, we brought her back for round two: this week’s Women Crush Wednesday star is—once again—the lovely Ellen Page.
Over the past year, she’s captured our hearts reprising her role as Kitty Pryde in X-Men: Days of Future Past, and delved more deeply into Canadian cinema with roles in Into the Forest, and Freeheld. She’s also become a force for change in the LGBT community, delivering impassioned speeches and standing up to homophobic presidential wannabes.
This month, she’s premiering a new show on the VICELAND channel called Gaycation. The show is part travel show, part docu-drama, and all kinds of awesome. Check out the preview below for a small taste of what awaits us on the 29th:
It looks like it’s going to be a hell of a ride. Part of the reason Page so handily shut down Ted Cruz at the Iowa State Fair was due to his refusal to grant an interview for the show. The New York Times stated:
“Page and the crew tracked him down as he schmoozed across the fairgrounds — [Page] actually climbed a small fence to get close. Now she stood there wondering how exactly to start. Cruz wore an apron that said ‘Pork: be inspired’; he held his foil-wrapped chop in one hand while making studied political gestures with the other. How do you properly interrupt a man performing presidential small talk? Page wondered. She didn’t want to seem rude.”
And we all know how that ended.
But shutting down homophobic bigots is just one small part of why we just adore Ellen Page. She’s not only an incredibly talented actress, but a force in the LGBT community, and vocal about the issues we all still deal with on a daily basis. Next week, I’ll be taking a look at the Gaycation premiere and posting a review. See you soon!
