Abby Wambach grew up in the Rochester suburb of Pittsford, New York. The youngest of seven siblings she always had a competitive spirit and loved sports. She started playing soccer at the age of five and was quickly switched from the girls team over to the boys team after she scored 27 goals in only three games. In high school she basketball and played soccer, and later her competitive drive was fueled partly by a championship loss in her senior year.

She is one of the greatest competitors and winners in the history of women’s soccer. She is also a two-time Olympic gold medalist and FIFA Women’s World Cup champion. Abby won the U.S. Soccer Athlete of the Year award six times.
She is currently holds the record for most goals scored for the national team and holds the world record for international goals for both female and male soccer players with 184 goals.
She has since retired from soccer and now coaches, announcing her retirement on October 27, 2015. She played her last game on December 16th, 2015 in New Orleans when the United States played its last match of its 10-game Victory Tour, just after their win at the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
