- Jane Addams (September 6, 1860 – May 21, 1935) – Was born in 1960 in Cedarville, Illinois. She was a social worker, political activist and nobel peace prize winner. The term lesbian was coined in 1890, one year after Addams founded Hull House. Although she would not have used the term to define herself, by today’s standards, Jane Addams would be a lesbian. Mary Rozet Smith arrived at Hull House one day in 1890 and over the years she became Jane’s devoted companion, virtually playing the role of a traditional wife.
- Ruth Benedict – (June 5, 1887 – September 17, 1948) Anthropologist and folklorist. She was born in New York City, New York on June 5th, 1887. She had a relationship with Margaret Mead, a fellow famous anthropologists.
