Let’s take a moment to pretend that we all didn’t know and that we all weren’t fantasizing about it in our oversized superhero panties. It’s official now! Selina Kyle better known as Catwoman is bisexual. This means she can flirt away with batman, because even as a lesbian who would want to miss her catty comments that are always on point.
She started out in batman comics before evolving and having her own line of comics being the anti-hero. Also known as: another reason that she’s awesome. Catwoman comics were previously awarded a GLAAD (Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) media award for their portrayal of an openly gay character Holly Robinson.
This new revelation in the comic book is unique to media because rather than dismissing the connection between Batman and Catwoman it instead builds to her liking girls. It’s unique in a way that it portrays a true bisexual and doesn’t dust the Batman relationship under the carpet to focus just purely on Catwoman’s flings with females.
It may have taken 75 years for this revelation to come about but we’re certainly not sorry that it has. So how exactly did this all come about?
In the #75 Catwoman comic former Catwoman, Selina is shown kissing the takeover Catwoman Eiko Hasigawa. It makes perfect sense that this duo would be attracted to each other. If you didn’t see it coming you were probably already formulating fan fiction in your head and egging it on. Just to be super clear though and to leave us with no doubts in our mind the comic book writer, Genevieve Valentine clarified it all in a blog post and even went as far as to detail the entire set up and why. It has always been hinted with Selina’s flirtation that she was bisexual and bringing Eiko in was the perfect choice because of how much time they spend together and the inner workings of their mind. The compatibility was definitely there as well as the bisexuality but it came at a time when pressure was on the rise and they are on the edge of war.
It’s perfect for the storyline. Selina has to deal with her relationship between her and Batman as well as the new one with Eiko and the fact that she has to make a decision to fight. It’s woven and intricate and new comic books are proving that the characters are evolving and more than one dimensional, even though it’s at a slow rate.
