Are you waving your pink, purple and blue flags proud today? September 23rd, is “Celebrate Bisexuality Day” and is also called Bisexual Pride Day, Bi Visibility Day, CBD, Bisexual Pride and Bi Visibility Day. Celebrate Bisexuality Day was first celebrated back in 1999 and is the brainchild of three United States bisexual rights activists: Wendy Curry of Maine, Michael Page of Florida, and Gigi Raven Wilbur of Texas. A wide variety of annual celebrations take place on September 23 throughout Canada, the United States, Europe, and Australia. People celebrate is in many ways hosting talks or dinner parties, going to bars, events such as masked balls and film screenings. They also launch balloons and hoist the pink, purple and blue bisexual flag. The celebration was announced in 1999 at the annual meeting of the International Lesbian and Gay Association and has been celebrated ever since.
Wendy Curry was the President of BiNet USA, the American national bisexual civil rights organization.
Michael Page is a bisexual rights activists and created the bisexual flag.
Gigi Raven Wilbur is an American bisexuality rights activist. She identifies as pansexual, and according to herself has been active in the BDSM community for over twenty years. She has a bachelor’s degree in philosophy and a master’s degree in social work. Gigi Raven Wilbur was also involved in BiNet USA.
