The year is closing in and coming to an end. Maybe it’s been one of the best years of your life and you’re going to miss it like crazy only hoping that the next year can top it or maybe it’s been terrible and you’re looking for a fresh start, nonetheless hopefully you’re celebrating the good times whether it’s saying goodbye or hello.
Whenever I think about New Year’s Eve my mind automatically goes to RENT. I loved every aspect of the New Years section, especially the song, even though it makes me bawl my eyes out. This year I was thinking of how integral that part of that musical was especially in the movie version. So what if this year we all incorporated some RENT style into our New Years Eve plans and really made it special. I have a few ideas. Hopefully you’re not kicked out of your apartment at the end of the night even so you could always have a breaking back into the building party.
Wear whatever you want
That’s right this is one night to party and you get to party in whatever costume or outfit that you want to. Whether you made it, bought it, found it or have been waiting forever to find the right time to wear it. Ring in the New Year looking like the person you want to be and feeling confident. They say dress for the job you want on this day dress for the life that you want. Look good by your own standards.
Resolutions
We all know about them but instead of making them frivolous why not make them meaningful. How will you change yourself so that you are able to change and help the people and world around you. Will you do something good to better your body? Do you drink or smoke too much and see how this affects others as well? Try to scratch beyond the surface goals of losing weight and saving money even if those are some goals that you have.
Friends
I find this to be the most important one. My friends are my family. This New Years Eve maybe you all want to go out to a huge party but make sure you’re doing it with your absolute and very best friends. Don’t worry about being the most popular or inviting the most people. Just find the ones who are truly and irrevocably there for you. Who you can kiss as the clock strikes midnight and start your new year together with. The ones who are there for you when the world is down on you and will help you through every relationship and bad breakup. Invite your beau if you have one and you definitely love them. In a time of change surround yourself by people you’re bringing with you.
New Years Even in RENT is all about spirit, love acceptance and having fun. It’s being able to work with what you have and still be positive about it. You don’t need the nicest clothes, most money or to be the most popular. Find a way to get through and make next year the best.
Happy New Years!
